ESTEC Open Day App for the public (shows limited site information)
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) approached SmartNE in 2013 with a view to mapping their site in Noordwijk, in the Netherlands. This is the largest site of the European Space Agency and it has great numbers of visitors each year. ESTEC wanted a private and secure navigation system to help staff and visitors, as appropriate, find their way to their intended locations, and provide them with essential information.
The app was developed using the WAi2Go platform and went live later in 2013. Visitors are able to download the app on arrival. Access to the map however is confidential and secure, as it links to the ESTEC's personnel directory and meeting room booking system as well as to open information (for example, the restaurant menu). Frequent updates are made to the site's CAD plans, and therefore to the map, to maintain overall accuracy.
Secure data integration
When connected to the ESTEC wireless network or via a VPN, the app allows access to the ESTEC personnel directory, meeting booking system and menu of the day for the restaurants.
Search for a person by name, office or job title and get directions to their office. Alternatively, touch on an office from the floor plans and get a list of the people in the office and their contact details.
From within the app, a user can search for meetings registered on the meeting booking system, or touch on a meeting or video conference room to get a list of the day's meetings.
